About the Australian Shepherd
Despite its name, developed in the western United States in the 19th and 20th centuries to herd livestock, with ancestry likely tracing to herding dogs brought over by Basque shepherds. Medium-sized and athletic, with a medium-length double coat often seen in merle patterns and, frequently, striking blue or particolored eyes.
Temperament
Intelligent, energetic, and work-driven, the Australian Shepherd needs a job or substantial exercise and mental stimulation to stay content and well behaved.
